Welcome to my blog!

UPDATE: Mediafire have suspended my account and locked my downloads. Having endured the tedium of re-uploading everything I had previously hosted on Mega Upload onto Mediafire earlier this year, I can't be arsed re-uploading everything again.

So please don't ask for things to be reuploaded!

I undertake this venture knowing that I don't have the spare time to do it, but feel that these artists NEED TO BE HEARD (please excuse my shouting!). Or is that I think I need to be heard? Or that there are (or have been) some great music blogs that have inspired me to wanna jump on the bandwagon? Probably all of the above??I hope you enjoy the blog. If I turn one person onto these bands that turned me on then it will all have been worth it!

The Go-Betweens - 1987-05-10 - Live at the Town & Country Club, London, England

To commemorate the 6th anniversary of the death of Grant (GW) McLennan, here's my favourite recording of The Go-Betweens - at the height of their power in 1987, having just recorded the soon to be released Tallulah album.

So why is this my favourite?

The sound is fantastic - a soundboard recording allegedly recorded by bassist Robert Vickers!

And the set list is to die for - Part Company, The Clarke Sisters, Head Full Of Steam, Karen, and my all time Go-Betweens faves, Apology Accepted and When People Are Dead. Astonishing to think the latter was released as a B-side, having been recorded too late to make the Tallulah album - although it was eventually released on the awesome posthumous compilation 1978-1980. However, inexplicably, the classic Cattle and Cane is absent - hence the presence of the YouTube clip above to appease the masses!

  3. Hey Ralph! -- I probably have enough Go-Betweens around here that I've yet to give a real good listen to yet, but... your loverly write up of this show makes it a no brainer! Gotta hear it. Got to thank the internet and guys like you, who are making great music a lot more easier fro guys like me to access. No longer having to buy on the blind. I doubt I would have known much about the Go-Betweens. Certainly wouldn't have tossed the dough so freely that I now have without these posts. This is one teriffic band and I can't wait any longer! Mucho thanks!

  7. I saw their final tour - they played a small pub in Bulli - BRILLIANT gig & a pretty terrific rebirth of the band. I'm really looking forward to hearing this - I'm getting the flac because I know it'll be worth the wait.
Thanks for your diverse and excellent offerings.
